And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying,
“This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”Luke 22:19
The Lord’s Supper was instituted by the Lord Jesus on the night of His betrayal and exists for the purpose of remembering Him. The bread is the divinely appointed symbol of His holy body given for us, and the cup is the symbol of His precious blood, by which He secured our eternal redemption. Matthew 26:26-29; Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-24 Please understand, there is no saving virtue in this ordinance. It is the privilege of all believers, who are sound in life and doctrine, to “show the Lord’s death until He come.” 1 Corinthians 11:26
At Bible Truth Chapel we observe the Lord’s Supper every Sunday morning and hold that the Lord’s Table is for all the Lord’s people. When we meet in this way, our worship is conducted by no presiding minister and follows no prearranged sequence, but is nevertheless marked by a reverent spontaneity and orderliness. Various brethren contribute to the worship by suggesting hymns to be sung, by leading the congregation in prayer and thanksgiving, or by reading or expounding a passage from the Bible.
If you are a believer, and would like to remember the Lord with us at Bible Truth Chapel on a regular basis, we encourage you to speak to one of the elders and make your desire known.
Where is it found in the Bible?
26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said,
“Take, eat; this is my body.”27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
I Corinthians 11:23-34
23 [The Apostle Paul writes:] For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,
“Take, eat, this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. 27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
